Engage

We bring reproductive and sexual health and wellness events to communities across the region, traveling in our Womb Bus to host pop-ups to deliver care directly to neighborhoods.

Empower

We offer prenatal education in English, Spanish and French; mentor the next generation of BIPOC doulas; support families with bi-lingual lactation and parenting groups; and train young people to become peer educators and lay the groundwork for healthy relationships and reproductive lives.

Advocate

We are committed to increasing access to free-standing birth centers, especially in communities of color, as an evidence-based alternative for low-risk pregnancies that improve health outcomes for birthing people and their newborns.

Incubate

We are nurturing a network of reproductive clinics and birthing centers that will provide collaborative care and be led by BIPOC midwives and supported by ob/gyns and doulas and in partnership with local hospitals.

Conscious Birth Collective: Doula Mentorship Program

This initiative empowers BIPOC doulas, fostering a more inclusive and supportive birth community. About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to expand access to culturally responsive health care, perinatal programs, family wellness support, and community engagement in order to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in underserved communities.

Our Vision

The Birthing Place Foundation (TBPF) will engage, inform, empower, and care for reproductive and sexual health and wellness. By nurturing community relationships, leveraging mobile wellness hubs (Womb Buses) and incubating free-standing reproductive health clinics and birth centers, TBPF will model how evidence-based strategies for culturally responsive care and community empowerment transform maternal and infant health outcomes.

Our History

Founded in 2020 in response to the maternal healthcare crisis for BIPOC families in New York City, The Birthing Place (TBP) has worked steadily to empower those starting families while providing culturally responsive care through multilingual perinatal classes, our mobile wellness hub (Womb Bus) and brick and mortar clinic (Maryam Reproductive Health & Wellness),  with access to an OB/GYN and midwives as well as mental health care and wellness modalities. In all of our work, we center the whole person within their community. Next, we will establish The Birthing Place itself, a free-standing birthing center in the Bronx. The Birthing Place Foundation (TBPF) is a 501(c)3 that builds on The Birthing Place’s mission by engaging in community outreach, empowerment, and advocacy.
